An invitation to Valley of the Winds community information session
A community information drop-in session is being held to introduce the Valley of the Winds project to the local community. The Valley of the Winds project team will be available throughout the drop-in session to answer questions about the project and listen to comments and feedback from the local community.
When: 2pm to 7pm on Thursday 27th February
Where: Coolah Showgrounds & Recreational Reserve, Dunedoo Road, Coolah.
Members of the community can drop in at any time during the session to find out more about the project, with the project team on hand to discuss the project either as a group or one-on-one.
Project description
Valley of the Winds is an 800-megawatt wind farm that is in the early stages of planning. The project is expected to create up to 400 jobs during construction and 50 ongoing jobs throughout its operational life.
It will be located on the hills to the south of Coolah, capturing the natural energy of the wind across the region to provide clean renewable energy to the National Electricity Market. The undulating terrain in that area allows for the wind turbines to be sited on ridgelines within cleared land that is currently being used for livestock grazing.
Sheep and cattle will be able to graze next to the wind turbines across the site, continuing the region’s close agricultural connection with the land while also allowing the generation of clean renewable energy for the people of NSW.
Up to 175 wind turbines are being proposed across three clusters named Mount Hope, Girragulang Rd and Leadville. These clusters will be linked electrically, allowing for approximately 2,500,000 megawatt hours of clean renewable energy to be generated each year.
The project is in the early planning phase. Our project team will be meeting with local landowners, their neighbours and other important community members and stakeholders over the coming months to help understand their views and answer questions about the project. We will continue these discussion as we develop our project application and documentation.
The project is being proposed by UPC\AC Renewables Australia, an experienced renewable energy developer, with a large portfolio of clean energy projects in development across NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
