The first of two 150 tonne electricity transformers will be trucked in to the New England Solar Farm site near Uralla on Sunday morning, where it will play an important role in supplying clean renewable energy for decades to come.
The 250 MVA transformers are essential pieces of electrical infrastructure as they transfer the renewable energy generated from the solar panels to the national electricity network.
The first transformer will be loaded onto a 13 axle trailer in Brisbane on Friday before being transported to Uralla, via Tamworth.
The over-sized vehicle will have motor vehicle escorts and will follow a pre-approved traffic route. It will be driven through the main street of Uralla on Sunday morning before being delivered to the solar farm site, six kilometres northeast of Uralla.
The second transformer will be transported to site the same way on Sunday morning April 10.
The transformers will then be craned into position in the electricity substation being constructed on the New England Solar Farm site.
The transformers were supplied by leading international electrical infrastructure manufacturer Siemens and will be fitted by MegaVolt.
New England Solar Farm Construction Director Tim Greenaway said the delivery was an important milestone for the project.
“The New England Solar Farm and Battery Project is one of the largest facilities of its type under construction in Australia,” Mr Greenaway said.
“The entire project will generate enough clean renewable energy to power the equivalent of 250,000 homes. It will play a vital role in securing our state’s power supply for many decades to come.” Page 2

“Once the transformers are delivered, they will be connected, tested, and commissioned so the clean energy generated on site can be used by homes and businesses throughout the state.”
Work on site is progressing well with two further large deliveries expected over the next month which are the prefabricated building structures that contain the Switch room and Control room on site.
