- ACEN Australia provides scholarship for learning pathway into a future career in Tasmania’s growing renewable energy industry
4 October 2022, TAS – Year 12 Hellyer College Student Kinae Edwards has her sights set on a learning pathway to position herself to be part of the workforce that will be needed to support Tasmania and Australia’s growing renewable energy sector.
Kinae is the recipient of ACEN Australia’s 2022 scholarship to undertake a Certificate II in Electrotechnology / Sustainability, offered annually to students at Burnie’s Hellyer College.
The scholarship, valued at $1000 supports students with the cost of education and further training within the sustainable energy and electrical sector, including the provision of a starter tool kit upon completion of the certification at the end of the year.
Kinae is on track to complete her studies in November with a view to pursue an electrical apprenticeship in Tasmania’s North-West.
Kinae says the scholarship is preparing her for an apprenticeship to help her reach her career aspirations.
“I hope to gain employment in the electrical industry as an apprentice, and long term I have aspirations to work in the mining industry. A recent visit to the Woolnorth Wind Farm however helped me see the value of alternate energy and its potential value to the community. The renewable energy sector is another future pathway I could pursue.”

The Clean Energy Council estimates there is over 20 new wind farms being built in Australia, supporting 8000 jobs.
