Construction of New England Solar’s utility Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has reached a major milestone, with works set to start next week expanding the Uralla site’s Transgrid switchyard.

The switchyard bay will connect the New England Solar BESS to the transmission network.

“These initial infrastructure works, to expand the switchyard, are an exciting step in the delivery of what is set to be the first large-scale battery energy storage system in the New England,” Project Director Sarah Donnan said.

Next week’s start of construction for the switchyard will bring a minor increase in traffic on the New England Highway, the northern section of Barleyfields Road and Big Ridge Road, with vehicles accessing the New England Solar site.

Switchyard construction is expected to take approximately six months and public updates will be available on the New England Solar project website, Facebook page and local media.
